Seven Reasons to Choose Eugene Christian School

1. Because it's a good school academically

Like all parents, we want our children to attend a school that offers a balanced program that teaches educational basics and incorporates other activities that use the very best teaching methods. Eugene Christian School has a well-earned reputation for scholastic excellence. We are pleased that it isn't necessary to sacrifice academic quality to gain spiritual advantages.

2. Because such education is scriptural

The Lord commands His people to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4), and this includes all that the children receive in the way of training, education and discipline - in school as well as at home. Secular education should not be allowed to dominate a child's attitude toward God and the world, for, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10). Parents are solemnly responsible to God in this matter.

3. Because the most formative period in life is involved

God's Word say that if we "train up a child in the way he should go, when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). The early years of elementary training determine - to a far greater extent than any education received in later years - what a child will become as an adult. Those that wait until a child reaches adolescence before placing him in Christian academic surroundings often learn to their regret that the clay of belief, personality and conduct have already been irrevocably molded.

4. Because these are years for sheltering not for exposing

Some think that a child in kindergarten or elementary school should attend public school so that he can be a witness to the other children. This sounds spiritual, but isn't it true that children of tender years are more in need of being spiritually established in Christ than of having opportunities to do juvenile missionary work? Since we do our very best to protect these little ones from exposure to physical and moral hazards, isn't it logical to protect them from harmful spiritual influences? No child can receive too much of the right kind of Christ-centered Bible teaching and training. Such training in early years is the best foundation for effective Christian life and service in later years.

5. Because secular information must be related to religious truth

Our country has embraced the separation of church and state. Public school cannot integrate secular and spiritual truth any more. Even in public schools with very dedicated Christian teachers, secularism must of necessity prevail, giving children a view of life and the world that leaves God and the Bible entirely out of the picture. It is not easy to counteract, in the Sunday School and in the home, the far-reaching effects of 30 hours a week of such training. Children must learn, as early as possible, that God is a vital part of life and that the Bible is the key to truly successful living.

6. Because of the value of Christian contacts

Children often admire their teachers and sometimes even adore them. Our Christian school teachers are not only professionally capable, but are godly, morally upright, spiritually minded and gracious. Such teachers, in a Christian school, are free to use the full power of their personality, training and experience to influence their pupils for Christ. Christian playmates at our school, in most instances, share each other's enthusiasm for Christ, His Word, and His standards of conduct. That kind of fellowship is a great social and spiritual asset to a child - and to parents who are responsible for his training. Often the relationships the children build at school develop into life-long devoted friendships.

7. Because a Christian school can encourage good conduct and life choices

The highest incentive for good conduct is obedience and devotion to Jesus Christ. This motive provides a constant incentive for faithful study and right behavior. This incentive cannot be presented in the public schools - even by a Christian teacher. Moral issues that face our children and teens can be addressed in a Christian context and can help children to make good choices the rest of their lives.
